Why is my friend with benefits competing for my attention?

My fwb and I have a mutual friend and everytime we're both around him he'll try and do stuff to get my attention and flirt with me and try to initiate stuff with me. It's starting to bug me a little bit. Does he have attention issues or is it just a normal male territorial thing?
