The Christian approach to hate?

People usually do not hate others because of their religion, but rather use it as an excuse to hate. They've been hateful all along and just use their beliefs to justify it. It goes to show that religion, in my opinion, is pointless and is there to make people feel better about themselves and justify their hate against whatever group they like.
