I told him lets "freeze" the relationship?

We are both students and under exam stress. Spending time together made us both anxious that we are doing it instead of studying. Especially my boyfriend. He started calling me rare and never wanted to meet more than once every two weeks (at least that was implied in his behavior). This was pissing me off so eventually I suggested to "freeze the relationship" for the exam period and "defrost" it later. He took my suggestion with the enthusiasm. However since that mutual decision for the past two weeks he didn't contact me even once except two quick chats on msn. Almost like he is glad we finished? I called him eventually myself and he complained that he is having to masturbate a lot, but when i suggested we meet for a short time, and that its up to him, he wasn't enthusiastic. He said he is very stressed. So am I . But i feel there is something else...i feel our relationship is falling apart. What is your opinion? Is actually really finished? I don't want to bring it up with him..
